The Weather In Tuscany
| What Can You Expect from your Tuscany Vacation?
What can you expect from your Tuscany vacation? A lot! Your Tuscany vacation can be as eclectic as you may want it to be. It may also be as quiet, as historical, and / or as gastronomical as you desire it to be. If you are into adventure, you can also plan your Tuscany vacation around visiting the more remote sites in the mountains, hills or wooded areas. There's really no limit as what you can do in Italy's grand old region of Tuscany.
Tuscany is one of about twenty regions of Central Italy. Its geographic terrain is mostly hilly and mountainous, and the plains are carved into valleys by the great Arno River. This famous region's capital is Florence, a city which is known for its artistic legacy, historic centers and picturesque landscapes. In this city alone, you can already visit the six UNESCO world heritage sites like the historical centers of Florence, Pienza, San Gimignano and Siena; not to mention the square of the Cathedral of Pisa and the Val d'Orcia.
Your Tuscany vacation can land you anywhere in the region's ten provinces, namely: Arezzo, Florence or Firenze, Grosetto, Livorno, Lucca, Massa-Carrara, Pisa, Pistoia, Prato and Siena. All of them have exceptional places to visit. You can base your Tuscany vacation around the region's food centers and go on different culinary tasting tours. You can also visit the antiquated farmlands and agricultural centers (particularly the olive groves or farms) that abound in the area for a glimpse of how the locals cling on to their ancient mode of living and still yield quality produce that is known world-wide.
Some of the culinary tasting tours even offer lessons on cooking and food preparation Tuscany style. And if that does not fill up your gastronomical palate, you may want to add wine tasting tours to your vacation package as well. Your Tuscany vacation may include trips to the different vineyards in the region, and some of them even offer wine tasting packages (wine-and-cheese tasting, for the more elaborate tours.)
Historical sites in Tuscany are also magnets for tourists. Undoubtedly, these sites have incredible artistic merits of which people in Italy are proud of; such historical and architectural sites include: the Badia Florentina, the Casa Buonarroti, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Palazzo Medici Riccardi, the Palazzo Piccolomini, the Palazzo Vecchio, the Pharmacy of Santa Maria Novella, the Pinocchio Park, the Pitti Palace (Palazzo Pitti,) and the Speedale degli Innocenti.
There are also museums for the culturally and historically inclined like the Bargello Museum (Museo Nazionale del Bargello) and the Palazzo Publico and Museo Civico.
There are also religious sites and churches to explore all over Tuscany. A few examples include: Basilica di San Miniato al Monte, the Basilica si Santa Croce, the Baptistery of San Giovanni and its Gates of Paradise, the Church of Santa Maria Novella, the Church of Santo Spirito, the Duomo Tower of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Pisa Cathedral, San Frediano, Santissima Annunziata, Sinagoga (Synagogue) and Jewish Museum.
If you want, you can even have the most eclectic Tuscany vacation possible, mixing gastronomical delights with historical pursuits while taking in the culture and ambience of the region.
